Maui was one of the cats waiting for adoption at Battersea Dogs and Cats Home who Holly T Burrows sketched on her visit there as part of The Cartoon Museum's research for the Cats in Cartoons exhibition. Our film-maker Alex Parsons was particularly delighted to see this cat's name as he is originally from New Zealand and Maui is the name of a New Zealand demigod, trickster and cultural hero! Famous for his exploits and cleverness he could also shapeshift into animals - so would you be adopting a cat or a God here? Perhaps the answer to that is simple - cats are Gods! Aren't they?!
